A writer, filmmaker, and producer telling stories shaped between cultures and the places we call home.
Louise Lacson is a Filipina-Canadian filmmaker currently bouncing between Los Angeles, Manila, Philippines, and Atlantic Canada. A cum laude graduate of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, she tells bold, character-driven stories rooted in truth, culture, and connection, specializing in writing, directing, and producing narrative film and television.
Selected from a pool of accomplished candidates, she directed an episode of Provenance, a project that earned her creative team the esteemed Best Dramatic Series award from the Television Academy. She was further recognized as the recipient of the prestigious Louis J. Favara Scholarship for Cinematography. Louise’s previous films have been showcased with the Atlantic Film Festival, SeriesFest, College Television Awards, and the Toronto International Film Festival among others. With a multifaceted skill set encompassing writing, directing, producing, and editing, she has helped bring over 20 narrative projects and commercials to life.
In the last few years, Louise has worked with producing heavyweights like Hutch Parker, Cathy Schulman, and Gail Katz, and collaborated with Sylvester Stallone’s team at the Cannes Film Festival to work in film acquisitions and distribution for their projects.
Shelter 2025 (In Process)
Last December, she wrapped production on Shelter, a WWII drama set in the Philippines that she wrote, directed, and produced. She’s now developing her first feature, Where We Started, a Filipino coming-of-age film in collaboration with the Philippine Embassy in Canada.
Originally from the Philippines and raised in Atlantic Canada, Louise spent her teens volunteering and travelling through 40+ countries. Her time roaming around still fuels her work today—telling stories that feel escapist, yet deeply grounded in connection, culture, and the immigrant experience. Louise is passionate about using her platform to champion underrepresented communities within the mainstream media. Her current focus is to write and direct stories from all over the globe, and to build creative bridges between the Philippines, Canada, and the US. She’ll go wherever in the world if there’s a story worth telling. Her work reflects a dedication to bringing to light the unique stories that often go unnoticed.
When she’s not on set or behind Final Draft, you can find her improvising a new recipe in the kitchen, plotting a new adventure, or sipping matcha at her local café while writing her first fantasy novel inspired by Southeast Asian folklore.
